The highlight of the Evolution Garden is the Wollemi pine, a
"living fossil." Botanists have long known about it from fossil
imprints left in rocks.
This tree was thought to be extinct until 1994, when an
Australian bushwalker named David Noble came upon a grove of
135-feet high evergreens with flat needles. He contacted a
botanist who identified the trees as conifers that dated back to
the time of the dinosaurs!
The
Evolution Garden is one of the first places in Greater
Cincinnati to display this rare find. |
